Secret Shelf:  Its Easy To Be Ready and So Much Nicer - Especially When A Special Gift is Needed

See also:  [Greetings Cards] [Sources Binder] [Trivia]

The organized homemaker always has several small gifts wrapped and prepared for upcoming special occasions.  She keeps these gifts on her "secret shelf".  These gifts are generic in nature, meaning they can serve their purpose in many circumstances.  They are wrapped in neutral gift wrap so the addition of a bow and a small appropriate card serves your purposes well.

For instance, you may choose to keep a set of small jams/jellies for giving to men, some bath oil for women, a card game for teenagers, or a bag of funny-shaped balloons for children.  Whatever you choose, wrap the gifts and keep them handy for your unexpected needs.

It is best to choose one kind of gift to give for certain reoccurring occasions, say weddings.  Then, when you see this item on sale, you can purchase it in bulk.  One couple didn't get a garden hose for their wedding and found they used it constantly once they had purchased one for their own use.  So, they decided to always give a garden hose for other's weddings.  They keep five or so of them stored in a closet, add a happy bow and congratulations card, and off they go with their special gift.  It has become a tradition to get a garden hose from "Uncle Bill and Aunt Haddie" so much so that nieces and nephews, friends, and business associates have come to anticipate this personal and very useful gift.

You might do the same as you approach baby showers, bridal showers, and even birthdays.  Choose one kind of gift for each reoccurring occasion.  Buy in bulk, wrap in neutral paper, add a removable sticker as to the contents of the package (just so you know when your memory fails), and store on your "secret shelf".

When it is time to give, go to your shelf, retrieve a gift, add a bow and card, and you are done.  No more spending hours preparing just for this one occasion.  Good luck, and happy gift giving!
